Hello
I live in the Detroit area (Bloomfield Hills - ~45 min north of Detroit)
I'm looking for a location not too far away (~4h00 drive) where I could rent a cabin and do snowmobile (rental)for a week-end
I'm not looking for "extreme" stuff, just a good place where I can easily rent 2 snowmobiles and drive "quietly" on some trails
What location would you recommend? I've heard about Cadillac and Gaylord?
Thanks

IN Gaylord or Caddy, you are going to contend with a lot of people on the weekends. Consider another 50 min from Gaylord -4 hrs from you, and you are in teh UP. Get a place and ride right here from St. Ignace. We have wide flat trails- great for beginners mixing with other riders. Several loops to different snowmobile friendly towns, and sights to see.

Trail conditions are not great right now. THIN, ridable, with a few rocks poking through here and there, mostly like the rest of the state, except North of M-28. We have 2 rental places in town, Both motels. Quality inn is one http://www.saintigna...wmobile_Rentals it is across the highway from the Mackinac bridge connector trail. There is another motel (blanking on the name) which rents a sled with a room rental deal. You have to drive streets to get to it, but good people.
Trail conditions, and maps are available for most of the state from MSA's home pages. Go to the bottom left of the menu, click trail conditions, and the thumbtack for the area you are interest in.

He is not kidding. Nice long flat trails for a nice ride to Trout Lake for lunch and back to St Ignace.

Parking is off Marquette St. Go downtown, and turn at the NAPA store, trail head is right there, in the middle of town.
Right now, everything is SOAKED, and will likely be turning to ICE soon. We need more snow before I can recommend riding here. I think a good chunk of the state is in that situation.

I was looking for Munising in February (13th to 16th) but somebody from the area told me at this period of time, it was extremely busy and quite dangerous for inexperience riders like me...Kind of scary!!!
Is it true? Does that mean it’s not a good idea to go over there?
Is there any other place where it will be much quieter and ……safer? I plan to have my wife and daughter with me

That weekend could be busy no matter where you go. A couple of reason are right now people are going do to conditions and the weekend before you go is superbowl weekend (which is a light weekend on the trails). So by time your going the throttle thumb is very itchy and everyone that can go heads up. It could be light traffic in the UP if the Northern lower gets alot of snow. With the dates you are going being a saturday to tuesday your only busy day would be saturday. UP is highly recommended as from sunday after 12 till you leave on tuesday, trail traffic would be very very light. Anytown west of newberry would make your trip very enjoyable. The comfort inn in newberry also has on site sled rentals (ski-doo xp's) and right next door to the hotel is a Arctic Cat dealer that rents as well. http://www.comfortin...-michigan-MI407
My comments and opinions are not necessarily those of the MSA.

Well, I have 2 options for a cottage: Gladstone or Manistique (I have to stay in this area because I plan to do a dog sled tour)
It seems there is no store to rent a sled in the Gladstone area...
What about Manistique? Does somebody know a place? And what about the trail system?
Thanks
