State Snowmobile Trail #14 in Marquette and Baraga Counties Reopened
The Department of Natural Resources & Environment announced today that
snowmobile trail #14, between L’Anse and Big Bay in Marquette and
Baraga counties, has reopened to riders. Although the trail has
reopened, a section of approximately 200 yards will need to be shared
with logging trucks as an ongoing timber sale nears completion. The
affected section is posted, and logging trucks will have the right of
way.
"The logging company lost a number of hauling days this fall due to wet
weather, which extended their work into the snowmobiling season," said
DNRE Fire Officer Tom Proulx. “With no feasible detour, the logging
trucks must use the trail for access to the timber site. The portion of
trail with shared use of both trucks and snowmobiles is clearly posted
for everyone's safety."
Questions may be directed to Tom Proulx at 906-353-6651, or Ron Yesney,
DNRE recreation specialist, at 906-228-6561. Information regarding
other snowmobile riding opportunities, including snowmobile trail maps,
may be found on the DNRE’s Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnre, under
Outdoor Recreation.
The Department of Natural Resources & Environment is committed to the
conservation, protection, management, accessible use and enjoyment of
the State’s natural resources for current and future generations.
